Recently, a lot of people have gotten the crap scared out of them when they logged into Facebook – and not because they found another friend request from that jerk they dated a few years ago.
No, there’s a new Facebook feature that plays a notification sound whenever anything happens. Someone sends you a message, you get a beep. Someone updates their status, you get a beep. Someone comments on something you commented on, you get a beep. A butterfly farts over the Atlantic ocean and creates a Facebook beep.
If you find the Facebook Notification Sound rather annoying – it’s pretty easy to shut the thing off.
How To Turn Off The Bleeping Facebook Notification Thing
First – log into Facebook if you aren’t already. Then, at the top of the page, click on the round icon all the way to the right on the Top Facebook Bar. It’ll look like this.
Under that, you’ll see a link for Account Settings. Go ahead and click on that to bring up a page with whole bunch of options on it. On the left side of this screen, click where it says Notifications.

The top option next to How You get Notifications is On Facebook, click there.
Now you should see a check-box next to Play a sound when each new notification is received. Just un-check that option to quit getting those bleeping beeps.

Don’t forget to click Save Changes … and you’re done.
Also, while you’re in there, you can change other notification settings, too. So, if you don’t want to get all those e-mails from Facebook, you can turn those off, too.
Cool As Geek Welcome!

Whoa! Thanks! That was driving me nuts.
